7th ICEP - International Colloquium on Eucalyptus Pulp - Call For Papers

Energy prices in Brazil have been growing steadily in the last years. Energy cogeneration has become a very important source of revenue for non-integrated kraft pulp mills

South America is currently the largest producer of bleached eucalyptus market pulp worldwide. Furthermore, most of the new eucalyptus pulp mill projects are being installed or predicted for being installed in South America. Our continent is becoming the nervous center for eucalyptus pulp production globally. Therefore, South America must lead the initiatives in research, development and innovation not only on eucalyptus pulp production and utilization, but also on energy co-generation.

An important initiative to support the significant capacity increase and research & technology needs in South America was the creation of the International Colloquium on Eucalyptus Pulp in the year of 2003, which has become an important forum for discussions on energy and pulp production and utilization from eucalypt. The 1st ICEP was held in Viçosa, Brazil in 2003 and focused on eucalyptus pulp yield, bleachability and brightness stability. The 2nd occurred in Concepción, Chile in 2005 and emphasized wood quality and biotechnology. The 3rd occurred in Belo Horizonte, Brazil in 2007 and focused on eucalyptus pulp quality and products. The 4th occurred in Concepcion, Chile, and focused on productivity and quality. The 5th occurred in Porto Seguro, Brazil, and focused on integration of eucalyptus pulp mills with liquid and solid fuel production, materials and chemicals units. The 6th occurred in Colonia Del Sacramento, Uruguay, and focused on the production of pulp, paper, energy, biofuels and other bioproducts from eucalyptus.

The 7th ICEP will be held in Vitória, Brazil, in May of 2015. This event will focus on the stretching the limits of pulp and energy throughput from eucalypt forests.  In other words, the eucalyptus kraft mill functioning as an efficient pulp and energy producer will be the thoroughly discussed in this important event that should gather more than 300 people.

The event will have twelve sessions distributed in three days focused on new developments in various topics related to eucalyptus pulp and energy production, including: (1) eucalypts forest improvements for pulp and energy production, (2) advances in eucalypt wood quality evaluation, (3) biotechnology applied to pulp and other wood products, (4) wood biorefineries, (5) integrating the pulp mill into biorefineries, (6) advances in pulping chemistry, (7) advances in bleaching chemistry, (8) novel technologies for kraft pulping and bleaching, (9) developments on high energy delivery black liquor recovery, (10) a new vision on the kraft pulp mill energy matrix, and (11) technologies for high strength eucalypt fiber production.
